Oak Ride Farm Kennels and Cattery - Autumn Newsletter 2026
As the seasons begin to change, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has visited Oak Ride Farm in Woking, Surrey, over the summer. It's been wonderful seeing so many happy dogs enjoying our Secure Freedom Field, busy hydrotherapy sessions, and lots of furry faces staying with us over the holiday period!
Here's everything you need to know as we head into Autumn...
Secure Freedom Field Update

A huge thank you to everyone who has made use of our Secure Freedom Field over the summer months. It's been fantastic to see so many dogs enjoying the extended evening opening hours.
As we move into Autumn and the days become shorter, we'll be returning to our 5pm closing time. We'll announce the exact date for this change on our social media channels, so keep an eye out for updates.
With the wetter weather also comes muddier conditions! As Oak Ride Farm sits on heavy clay, the fields can become quite boggy after rain. We recommend bringing wellies for yourself and a towel for those muddy paws after your visit.

We're excited to now be stocking Stellar Pet Products Drying Robes.

Our Cattery currently has more availability during these periods.

🎃 Halloween Safety Tips
Halloween can be great fun, but it can also present a few hazards for our four-legged friends. Here are a few simple ways to help keep your pets safe.
Keep treats out of reach
Chocolate, sweets and sugar-free treats can all be dangerous to pets. Xylitol, found in many sugar-free sweets and chewing gum, is extremely toxic to dogs. Even wrappers and lollipop sticks can cause choking or intestinal blockages if swallowed.
Be careful with decorations
Candles should always be kept well out of reach to prevent accidents. Decorations such as fake cobwebs, string lights and dangling ornaments can be tempting to curious pets and may become choking hazards. Glow sticks can also cause irritation if chewed.
Reduce stress
If you're expecting trick-or-treaters, try walking your dog before it gets dark and keep cats safely indoors. Setting up a quiet room with their bed, water and favourite toys can help them stay relaxed during a busy evening.
Don't forget to make sure your pet's microchip details are up to date, just in case they become startled and escape.

🎆 Preparing for Bonfire Night
Fireworks can be frightening for many pets, but planning ahead can make a big difference.
Before the fireworks begin
Walk dogs earlier in the day before displays start.
Bring cats indoors before dark and keep doors, windows and cat flaps closed.
Create a cosy den with familiar bedding, blankets and favourite toys.
Double-check that your pet's microchip details and ID tags are up to date.
Consider using a pet-safe calming pheromone diffuser if your pet is particularly anxious.
During the evening
Close curtains and windows to reduce noise and flashing lights.
Play the television or calming music to help mask the sound of fireworks.
Allow your pet to hide if they choose to and never force them out.
Stay calm yourself, as pets often take reassurance from their owners.
Offer gentle comfort if your pet enjoys it, helping them feel safe and secure throughout the evening.
Welcome Lisa and Sharon
We are excited to announce that Lisa and Sharon will be joining our Hydrotherapy team.

Lisa
I recently qualified as a Canine Hydrotherapist alongside my career in law, having completed my Level 3 Certificate in Canine Hydrotherapy at Greyfriars Rehabilitation and Hydrotherapy Centre.
My interest in canine hydrotherapy began through my own dog, Ralph, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, who was diagnosed with mild bilateral hip dysplasia. Hydrotherapy was introduced as part of a conservative approach to managing his condition, and seeing first-hand the positive impact it could have on his mobility and wellbeing inspired me to pursue a career working with dogs.
After many years working in the legal profession, I wanted to move towards a more vocational career where I could make a tangible difference through the work I do. I find canine hydrotherapy particularly rewarding because it allows me to play a practical role in supporting a dog’s mobility, health and quality of life.
Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the woods and countryside with my husband, two young boys and, of course, Ralph — who all keep me very busy!
Sharon

Hi, I’m Sharon! After many years as a primary school teacher, I decided to follow my love of dogs into canine hydrotherapy.
My interest began when my own dog, Tiggi, had hydrotherapy following surgery for a cruciate ligament rupture. Seeing how much it helped her recovery inspired me to train at Greyfriars and make a change in career. I’m excited to help other dogs build strength and confidence, and to support their owners along the way.
At home, Tiggi keeps me busy, and when I’m not spending time with her, you’ll often find me running around on the tennis court.
