Oak Ride Farm Kennels and Cattery - Summer Newsletter 2026

Welcome to our first seasonal update from Oak Ride Farm. As we head into the summer months, we'd like to share some exciting news, updates from around the farm, and helpful advice to keep your pets happy and healthy during the warmer weather.

Summer Boarding Update

With the summer holidays quickly approaching, we are gearing up for our busiest time of the year.

Availability throughout July and August is now very limited, but please don't hesitate to get in touch if you're still looking for boarding.

We do occasionally receive last-minute cancellations, so there may still be opportunities to book your pet's stay with us.

Exciting Progress on Our Cattery Renovations

Our cattery renovations are moving along beautifully, and we're delighted to share that the section closest to reception is due to be completed by 1st August.

The newly renovated area includes:

  • 5 brand-new single rooms

  • 4 spacious double rooms

  • 2 family rooms

Each room has been designed with comfort, hygiene, and enrichment in mind, featuring:

  • Epoxy flooring

  • White hygiene-clad walls

  • Fully insulated and heated indoor accommodation

  • Multiple climbing and resting levels

  • Cat flaps leading to outdoor runs

We are incredibly pleased with how the new spaces are looking, and most importantly, the cats seem to be loving them too!

Keeping Dogs Cool During Hot Weather

The hot weather at the end of May and June gave us an early reminder of the importance of keeping dogs safe and comfortable during warmer temperatures.

Here at Oak Ride Farm Kennels and Cattery in Woking, we adjusted our routine to ensure dogs were exercised during the coolest parts of the day, with walks taking place early in the morning and later in the evening when temperatures had dropped.

Throughout the day, dogs enjoyed plenty of indoor enrichment while our outdoor runs were regularly hosed down to help keep surfaces cool. Combined with our tiled flooring and fans throughout the kennels, this helps maintain a comfortable environment even during the hottest periods.

Fresh water is always available, and during particularly warm days, we regularly refresh bowls and add ice cubes – something many dogs absolutely love!

For additional advice on keeping your dog safe during summer, take a look at the Blue Cross guide on hot weather safety.

Flea & Tick Season Is Here

As temperatures rise, so does the activity of fleas and ticks.

Regular preventative treatment is one of the best ways to protect your pet throughout the summer months. It's worth checking that your pet's flea and tick protection is up to date, especially if they spend lots of time outdoors.

Keep an eye out for excessive scratching, skin irritation, or unwanted hitchhikers after walks.

Meet the Team

We've recently launched a brand-new Meet the Team page on our website.

The page introduces the wonderful people who help care for your pets every day and gives an insight into the experience, passion, and dedication behind Oak Ride Farm.

Extended Summer Opening Hours for Secure Freedom Field

To make the most of the longer summer days, our Secure Freedom Field opening hours have been extended.

The field is now open daily from:

8:00am – 8:00pm

We'll review these hours again towards the end of summer as daylight hours begin to shorten.

Championship Success for Kirou & Simon

A huge congratulations to Simon Hopcroft-Lopez and his Rottweiler, Kirou, who recently won the National Rottweiler Sport Dog Championships.

Simon and Kirou have been attending fitness hydrotherapy sessions with Paula at Oak Ride Farm for some time, and it has been fantastic to see their hard work, commitment, and training rewarded with such an impressive achievement.

Congratulations to both of them from all of us at Oak Ride Farm!

Congratulations Amelia!

We're also incredibly proud to congratulate our team member Amelia, who has successfully completed her studies at Surrey University and is now a fully qualified Veterinary Surgeon.

Amelia's dedication and hard work over the years have been inspiring to watch, and we are delighted to celebrate this milestone with her.

Congratulations Amelia — a fantastic achievement!
